Yangzhou ritual embraces World Cup flavor 14.07.2026

For the past month, Yangzhou's normally serene teahouses have transformed into lively hubs for World Cup fans, thanks to the tournament's morning kickoffs due to the time difference. Unlike previous World Cups that featured late-night games with barbecue and beer, this year's schedule has prompted fans to embrace the city's traditional morning tea culture. Soccer fan Han Xiao expressed his delight, noting that watching the World Cup while having morning tea offers a refreshing way to enjoy the tournament while appreciating Yangzhou's tea culture. At Yechun, one of the city's most renowned teahouses with a 300-year heritage, staff have adjusted their schedules, switching on large screens for morning matches and even opening earlier for popular games. Deputy general manager Hong Jing explained that the morning match times inspired the idea of combining soccer with Yangzhou morning tea, leading to special World Cup breakfast packages and soccer-themed decorations.
