Youth poverty rate in Spain grows more than in any other EU country in 2025 05.07.2026

According to recent Eurostat data, the rate of severe deprivation and social exclusion among young people aged 15 to 29 in Spain has increased significantly in 2025, reaching 8.1%, compared to 7.2% in 2024. This increase of nine-tenths positions Spain in fourth place in Europe, surpassed only by Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Greece, and Bulgaria. Despite Spanish GDP growing by 2.8% in 2025, exceeding the European Union average, economic growth is not translating into well-being for families. Inflation in food, housing, and energy, combined with the lack of deflation in Personal Income Tax (IRPF), has increased the number of Spaniards at risk of poverty to 12.5 million. Furthermore, the rise in multiple employment (pluriempleo) reflects the difficulty workers face in covering basic needs due to the high cost of living.
