Zoos | Managing Director and Board of Kuusamo Large Predator Center Resign 07.07.2026

Pasi Jäntti, the Managing Director of the Kuusamo Large Predator Center, has resigned from his position, and the company's board has also stepped down. Jäntti cited serious safety concerns as the reason for his resignation, specifically regarding the poor condition and maintenance of the old facilities. He fears that the deterioration of the facilities could lead to bears escaping, as occurred in April 2022 when two bears escaped from their enclosures. Jäntti emphasized that he cannot take responsibility for the safety of employees and customers if he lacks the authority to influence the renovation of the facilities. This follows a previous court case in which both founder Sulo Karjalainen and Jäntti were convicted of animal cruelty. Karjalainen received a three-month suspended prison sentence for animal suffering, while Jäntti was fined 45 days. Jäntti stressed that the resignation was not due to a dispute, but rather the impossibility of performing his duties.
