Zuckerberg-backed Biohub bets $500M on AI biology 29.04.2026

Biohub, a nonprofit initiative led by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, is investing $500 million over five years to advance AI-driven simulations of the human body, aiming to create more accurate predictive models of cells and ultimately cure all human diseases. The significant financial commitment includes $400 million for Biohub's internal research and $100 million to encourage external collaborators, such as Nvidia, the Allen Institute, the Human Cell Atlas, and the Human Protein Atlas. This ambitious undertaking relies on the principle that increased data and computational power exponentially enhance the utility of AI models, with a goal to surpass current datasets of approximately one billion cells by an order of magnitude or more. While Biohub acknowledges that achieving its long-term vision will require sustained investment beyond this initial five-year period, it hopes its seed funding will catalyze further support from other entities in the field of biological AI.
