Zukunft der Schuldenbremse SPD übt scharfe Kritik an CDU-Beschluss 22.02.2026

The CDU has passed a resolution at its party conference opposing further loosening of the debt brake, demanding proof that existing billions in debt are used for investments rather than consumption before any new borrowing is considered. This stance directly conflicts with the coalition agreement, according to SPD General Secretary Tim Klüssendorf, who stated the agreement clearly outlines the development of the debt brake to allow for crucial future investments in infrastructure, childcare, schools, security, and economic strength. The SPD insists the coalition partner must adhere to this agreement, and SPD Bundestag member Ralf Stegner urged the CDU to uphold their commitment. An expert commission, as stipulated in the coalition agreement, is already working on proposals for modernizing the debt brake, and the SPD awaits its findings before engaging in concrete discussions.
