Zweitägige Ukraine-Gespräche Erster Verhandlungstag beendet - Fortsetzung folgt 17.02.2026

The first of two days of negotiations between Ukrainian and Russian delegations concluded in Geneva, with discussions focusing on practical solutions and mechanisms within political and military blocs. Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov reported on Telegram that thematic groups continued their work after a joint session. The talks, which are being mediated by US chief negotiator Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are taking place behind closed doors. The Russian delegation described the six-hour discussions as "very tense." Representatives from Germany and other European countries, including German Chancellor's foreign and security policy advisor Günter Sautter, are present, with European officials scheduled to meet with Ukrainian and US delegations on the sidelines. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had previously stated that no significant developments were expected on the first day, as the talks are set to continue on Wednesday.
